Mystery Drama

The Mystery Drama Study Group

In the past four years, we have read and studied Goethe’s Fairy Tale: ‘The Green Snake and the Beautiful Lily’, and Rudolf Steiner’s Mystery Plays: ‘The Portal of Initiation’, and ‘The Soul’s Probation’. This year we continue with the reading and study of ‘The Guardian of the Threshold’, the third Mystery Drama. We work in the original German language, but also speak English at times during this study. It is conducted free of charge.

Eurythmy (Ingrid Kinloch) , with some emphasis on the Zodiac Gestures, or Formative Speech and Michael Chekov movements of the elements with colour  (Katherine Rudolph) have opened the sessions. We have been working from 7:30-9:30 pm in the library of the Michael Centre, Warranwood, Victoria, Australia, on the first and third Mondays of the month since 2005.

The twelve points of view in human thought processes and the qualities of planetary individualisation in relation to the members of a mystic brotherhood in transition from the old to the new initiations has been our focus. Speaking the roles from the voice placement techniques there involved has been demonstrated. Understandings from Human and Cosmic Thought  by Rudolf Steiner have helped us in the attempt to apply these principles to experiences in our present social lives.

Correspondence with Ruth Dubach, who leads the Mystery Drama Study Group in the Dornach  Switzerland Branch of the Anthroposophical Society, has helped to deepen our study. An article by Hans Kuhn has shed light on the Machine invented by Dr. Strader in its relation to futuristic social consciousness. New discoveries about these processes are still being made which may be of service to human beings in this age of technology.

Those interested in understanding the German are welcome to bring the English texts as well. We proceed at a slow pace and welcome new members.
